The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sandu Mândrilă might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ball Hold. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sandu Mândrilă ran back to his position shaking his head. 20 minutes into the game, Stamen Tekeliev recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Ball Hold. Stamen Tekeliev showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Xorxe Canosa in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Zé Roberto Teixeira saved Playa Malvín from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jim Morrison in the 33rd minute of play forced Playa Malvín's goalkeeper Zé Roberto Teixeira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Playa Malvín's Josu Onez was substituted for Jabier Igual. Ball Hold showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Niva Espellosa, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. 84 minutes had been played when some careless play by Playa Malvín's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Playa Malvín's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
