After a defensive mix-up in Galo do Japi's zone, Mikolaj Giertych stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronaldo Giovanelli came out of the goal and Mikolaj Giertych tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A throw-in in the 42nd minute of the game was made by Belmiro Caca-Rato with Carlos Santana as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. 46 minutes into the game, Mikolaj Giertych cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Ronaldo Giovanelli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Carlos Lampe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Renato Saraiva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Carlos Lampe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Santana in the 54th minute of the match. Carlos Lampe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Santana in the 56th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mikolaj Giertych in the 60th minute of play forced Galo do Japi's goalkeeper Ronaldo Giovanelli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd minute, Galo do Japi's César dos Santos seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed César dos Santos the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. In the 91st minute, Belmiro Caca-Rato hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronaldo Giovanelli was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Carlos Saúl Menem showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-2 in the 93 minute of play.
