After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Zé Roberto Ceresso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dragostea E.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Zé Roberto Ceresso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcelo Vidal breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Vasco Mineiro FC's zone, Váldson Netto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelo Vidal came out of the goal and Váldson Netto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zé Roberto Ceresso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Marcelo Vidal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Váldson Netto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Marcelo Vidal made a huge save. Alfredinho Cunha kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Marcelo Vidal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zé Roberto Ceresso went, in the 23rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. In the 28th minute Dragostea E.C were awarded a corner. Falcão Macedo went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Vasco Mineiro FC's goalie and right to Frédson Dante. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Vasco Mineiro FC's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Ciro Leão didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hortêncio Linares went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Váldson Netto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelo Vidal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. Toninho Prestes succeeded in the game's 45th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-2. The Dragostea E.C players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Vasco Mineiro FC were winning 1-2.

Fabrício Tasso's late challenge caught a Dragostea E.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fabrício Tasso helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Dragostea E.C booed when Vasco Mineiro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabrício Tasso didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcelo Vidal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Váldson Netto went, in the 56th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. Marcelo Vidal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Váldson Netto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 60 minutes Vasco Mineiro FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Falcão Macedo who took care of the corner kick. Zézinho Leão hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. In the 61st minute, Zézinho Leão fired away a hard free kick towards the goal. Marcelo Vidal moved to his left, but didn't have to make a save as the ball went out of bounds. Váldson Netto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Vidal having to interfere. A collision led to Vasco Mineiro FC getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Joel Furlan hit a great ball. Toninho Prestes's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 70thth minute, Ciro Leão skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After 72 played minutes Vasco Mineiro FC got a freekick which was hit by Oswaldo das Neves. Váldson Netto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Dragostea E.C defense, Toninho Prestes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ciro Leão. The Dragostea E.C fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ciro Leão should have stopped the shot. 80 minutes into the game, Joel Furlan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vasco Mineiro FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Dragostea E.C the free kick. Dragostea E.C's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Falcão Macedo in the 82nd minute. Dragostea E.C's Falcão Macedo was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Marcelo Vidal in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 83rd minute, João Adolfo de Brito got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Zé Roberto Ceresso in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marcelo Vidal prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Marcelo Vidal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Roberto Ceresso in the 87th minute of play. After 89 minutes, Váldson Netto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dragostea E.C and the Vasco Mineiro FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Dragostea E.C's Váldson Netto got a free kick in the 89th minute.
