The referee ignored Leeds's protests and gave Márton Salgó a yellow card for diving instead. In the 14th match minute, Leeds was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Márton Salgó to maneuver through the defense. The coaching staff of Toronto United protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Dirk Banks had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Toronto United's Winfred Varela was substituted for Moses Stratton. In the 61st minute, one of Toronto United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Toronto United. William Nance had in the 65thth minute some difficulties stopping Gábor Kádár's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 71 minutes of play Leeds's Márton Salgó was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Toronto United made a substitution. Donte Gaulin replaced Brady Erickson. With an extended leg and a bit of luck William Nance prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Leeds booed when Toronto United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donte Gaulin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Toronto United played a much better game than Leeds and deserved their victory. The Leeds players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
