The Oldham Athletic fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when Oldham Athletic's David Lindmark looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ingvar Bäck hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, LA VIOLA's Mikael Uggstedt got a free kick in the 29th minute. Oldham Athletic:s Thor Persson showed great skill when he stopped Henrik Wickander:s penalty. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

The wind increased when Adam Qvarnström made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Oldham Athletic's zone, Mino Raiola stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thor Persson came out of the goal and Mino Raiola tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sérgio Urbano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonardo Deckberg in the 59th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Arman Gregersson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Oldham Athletic's supporters rose to their feet, but Arman Gregersson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sérgio Urbano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thor Persson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mino Raiola, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. In the 66th minute, Mino Raiola ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Thor Persson was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Oldham Athletic made a substitution.
