But to his dismay, Petter Skarkman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 24 minutes into the match, Protegéerna's goal looked a bit too open when Ryszard Pilipiec came free, but Ingemar Åberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Protegéerna getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Ossi Eloranta hit a great ball. Ingemar Åberg came out and tried to block the shot, but Ryszard Pilipiec slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 28th minute. If Kazimierz Dylla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

The wind increased when Petter Skarkman made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Pogoń Stawiszyn booed when Protegéerna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. The audience was convinced that Petter Skarkman's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gilbert Podolski was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. Pogoń Stawiszyn's Gilbert Podolski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petter Skarkman in the 95th minute of play. The Protegéerna supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Protegéerna would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
