In the 4th minute Bosse Laden shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aristide Mârzac saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 8th minute, Mădălin Săliştean hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, IFK Göteborg's Kjell Björnberg got a free kick in the 11th minute. In the 11th minute of the match Călin Onuț sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Håkan Deckbergh skillfully saved the ball. Håkan Deckbergh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Călin Onuț in the 16th minute of play. Håkan Deckbergh didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Basarab Arotăriței went, in the 17th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. IFK Göteborg's Håkan Deckbergh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basarab Arotăriței in the 21st minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Basarab Arotăriței ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Håkan Deckbergh was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 27th minute Basarab Arotăriței shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Håkan Deckbergh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 30th minute, IFK Göteborg's Bengt-Arne Dahlquist dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. A collision led to FC Berea getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Eric Dărmănescu hit a great ball. In the 39th minute Calistrat Boc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Håkan Deckbergh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 45th minute Nae Braica shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Håkan Deckbergh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of FC Berea booed when IFK Göteborg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthias Ahlstedt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bengt-Arne Dahlquist to make the kick off. IFK Göteborg's Håkan Deckbergh proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save IFK Göteborg from getting a goal against them. When Bengt-Arne Dahlquist came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the IFK Göteborg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bengt-Arne Dahlquist couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Călin Onuț got free with Håkan Deckbergh in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. IFK Göteborg's Håkan Deckbergh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Calistrat Boc in the 57th minute of play. Aristide Mârzac showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bengt-Arne Dahlquist, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. A collision led to FC Berea getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Nae Braica hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the match, FC Berea's goal looked a bit too open when Bosse Laden came free, but Aristide Mârzac reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind IFK Göteborg's goalkeeper Håkan Deckbergh, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Håkan Deckbergh acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 75th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Călin Onuț. Håkan Deckbergh came out of the goal in the 77th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Berea's Călin Onuț. But to his dismay, Călin Onuț quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. 81 minutes into the game, FC Berea's Nae Braica nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Håkan Deckbergh made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. Håkan Deckbergh made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Calistrat Boc sent off a good shot on target. Håkan Deckbergh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Calistrat Boc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Calistrat Boc received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Håkan Deckbergh came out and tried to block the shot, but Calistrat Boc slotted it home off the left post making it 1-5 in the 91st minute. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. FC Berea walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
