The audience thought a goal was coming when Sotiris Zacharakis got free with Carlos Lampe in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mikolaj Giertych's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ingvar Nykvist read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. ΠΑΟΚ FC's Ingvar Nykvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mikolaj Giertych in the 34th minute of play. But to his dismay, Santiago Silva quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1.
