The audience thought a goal was coming when Christijan Schreuder got free with Godfredo Obano in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd rose to their feet as Verwachting's Christijan Schreuder slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Godfredo Obano. That made the score 1-0 after 40 minutes of play. The audience was convinced that Feliciano Itzaina's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Herbert Hilhorst was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

After a defensive mix-up in ALEXANDRIA's zone, Harm de Freitas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Godfredo Obano came out of the goal and Harm de Freitas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Verwachting were furious when Hans Deitmers was red carded, 89 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. A collision led to Verwachting getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Hans Deitmers hit a great ball. Herbert Hilhorst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Feliciano Itzaina in the 90th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Franco Orozco could shoot a difficult shot in the 96th minute, which Herbert Hilhorst however easily saved by the left post. ALEXANDRIA's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
