In the 12th minute of the match Garphyttan got a corner. Real Club Celta de Vigo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. A well-hit corner resulted in Donato de Salles heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Erik Skog made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Renato Tapia in the 14th minute of play. When Guillermo Marin came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Real Club Celta de Vigo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guillermo Marin couldn't finish the play. Ulf Wennerquist hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. The wind increased when Renato Tapia made the kick off in the second half.
