António Pimentel's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Zacarias Sesimbra firmly grabbed it by the left post. Vladimiro Leão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Pauleta, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Vladimiro Leão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Regalado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Pedro Pauleta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dragonf⮊rcE's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedro Pauleta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vladimiro Leão breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pedro Pauleta in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vladimiro Leão saved Internacional de Lisboa from getting behind. Vladimiro Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Pauleta in the 31st minute of play. Zacarias Sesimbra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jan Hendrik Saarberg in the 35th minute. In the 38th minute of the match Dragonf⮊rcE got a corner. Internacional de Lisboa's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Herman Dresselbjerg ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Pedro Pauleta almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Internacional de Lisboa's Vladimiro Leão did a great save. 41 minutes into the match, Donatien Bidart dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Zacarias Sesimbra, 1-0. 44 minutes into the match, Internacional de Lisboa's goal looked a bit too open when Barry Houghton came free, but Vladimiro Leão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 45 played minutes Internacional de Lisboa got a freekick which was hit by Tarcísio Sampaio. Vladimiro Leão didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Pedro Pauleta went, in the 46th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

With an all-out effort, Dragonf⮊rcE's Vladimiro Leão threw himself towards the right post 51 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Pedro Pauleta, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 55 minutes into the match, Dragonf⮊rcE's goal looked a bit too open when 方亮宁 came free, but Zacarias Sesimbra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 86th minute Pedro Pauleta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vladimiro Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Dragonf⮊rcE defense, Jan Hendrik Saarberg kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zacarias Sesimbra. The Dragonf⮊rcE fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zacarias Sesimbra should have stopped the shot.
