The supporters of La Cosa Nostra booed when Sporting Clube de Gaya was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horácio Pedroso didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Håkan Šuker took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for António Trubin to make any attempt to save it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hans Bergfelt got free with António Trubin in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jorge Lisboa struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Sonny Alén didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting Clube de Gaya. A collision led to Sporting Clube de Gaya getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Silvo Kenig hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, La Cosa Nostra's Hans Bergfelt tried to score from far away in the 24th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Håkan Šuker could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but António Trubin made a huge save. When La Cosa Nostra's Elias Millrick in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Sporting Clube de Gaya's goalie prevented a goal. Sporting Clube de Gaya's Qu Bin Feng quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Pedro Pedroso, made in the 39th minute of the game. After 46 minutes, Håkan Šuker made it 4-0 with a short kick to the right side. Sporting Clube de Gaya's António Trubin tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

Silvo Kenig's late challenge caught a La Cosa Nostra's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Silvo Kenig helped the player get up and apologised. Silvo Kenig hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Sonny Alén took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Manuel Porto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 58th minute Håkan Šuker shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but António Trubin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 62 minutes into the match, La Cosa Nostra's Elias Millrick sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that António Trubin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Silvo Kenig was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 63 minutes had been played. In the 65th minute, Håkan Šuker ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. António Trubin was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. António Trubin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elias Millrick, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. 71 minutes into the match, Sporting Clube de Gaya's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Millrick came free, but António Trubin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in Sporting Clube de Gaya fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 94th minute. Penalty! In the 96th minute there was a penalty for La Cosa Nostra. Elias Millrick stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving António Trubin. 7-0.
