Matias Bilintx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Atahan Balon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. With a little luck, Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo got control of the ball when Asiz Soon tried to sneak it across the goal line. Atahan Balon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dante Fernendo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Saverio Brion in the 17th minute of the match. Atahan Balon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alejandro Rufo, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. In the 26th minute, Erubiel Txaran hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dante Fernendo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Asiz Soon's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. In the 34th minute Saverio Brion shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Fernendo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 36 minutes Sporting de Gijón's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Cristian Urtzi who took care of the corner kick. Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. Niceto Dominix kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. Saverio Brion recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ricardo-Enrique Bochini scored 1-0 in the 43rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dante Fernendo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Atahan Balon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Matias Bilintx was the one to do the kick off. When the referee ended the match the Los Muchachos del 86 players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
