In the 7th minute of the match Club Deportes Santa Cruz got a corner. Southern Thrashers's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Remi Manzanal ran over to the corner to take the kick. Remi Manzanal made a great header on Club Deportes Santa Cruz's corner, it was just that Southern Thrashers's Carman Jobson managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Virgilio Patiño, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Clark Nolan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Virgilio Patiño didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Southern Thrashers's Conner Mclatchey shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-1 in the ordered_time% minute. The Club Deportes Santa Cruz fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

There was no doubt that Club Deportes Santa Cruz were the better team. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
