In the 19th minute Codruț Turcescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brendan Mckinnes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 23rd minute, Bud Ludwick got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bud Ludwick got free with Mugurel Moculescu in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the Boroondara Milan defense, Nicodim Encica kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Brendan Mckinnes. The Boroondara Milan fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Brendan Mckinnes should have stopped the shot. Bud Ludwick received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Mugurel Moculescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
