Epifanio Velasco's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 14thth minute, Amadeo Rio skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Club Universidad Nacional's Nunez Salvidor slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Amadeo Rio. That made the score 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Diego Sanson in the 24th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Amadeo Rio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 27 played minutes Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Zacarias Mincho. Amadeo Rio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nunez Salvidor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Diego Sanson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Amadeo Rio having to interfere. Amadeo Rio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oscar Lalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Diego Sanson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Amadeo Rio having to make a save. The Club Universidad Nacional fans' excitement grew in the 41st match minute when Club Universidad Nacional's Epifanio Velasco looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Independiente's Amadeo Rio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Independiente from getting a goal against them. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Primitivo Duarte made a kick off. A collision led to Club Universidad Nacional getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Arturo Santikurtz hit a great ball. Independiente's Amadeo Rio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Epifanio Velasco in the 55th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Diego Sanson made a precise shot to the right of Amadeo Rio. Independiente's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. Amadeo Rio came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Universidad Nacional's Epifanio Velasco. But to his dismay, Epifanio Velasco quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. In the 63rd minute Epifanio Velasco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeo Rio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Primitivo Duarte kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herminio Cordero in the 73rd minute of play forced Club Universidad Nacional's goalkeeper Fernando Abarca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 74th minute, one of Independiente:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Independiente. Amadeo Rio had in the 77thth minute some difficulties stopping Epifanio Velasco's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Independiente's Amadeo Rio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oscar Lalla in the 78th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Conrado Venceslao during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Amadeo Rio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Sanson in the 85th minute of play. When German Uhin fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Independiente's protests and gave German Uhin a yellow card for diving instead. In the 88th minute, German Uhin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
