Jorginho Sarmento started the match with the kick off. Váldson de Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorginho Sarmento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Vitório Freire came free, but Váldson de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 14 minutes, Vitório Freire made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Palmeiras's Váldson de Queirós tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 18 minutes into the match, Locomotiva grena's goal looked a bit too open when Téo Trancoso came free, but Murillo Loyola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Murillo Loyola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jeferson Trigo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 28 played minutes Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Jeferson Trigo. If Jorginho Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 44 played minutes Locomotiva grena got a freekick which was hit by Osvaldo Simões. In the 46th minute Jeferson Trigo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murillo Loyola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Murillo Loyola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Valle in the 47th minute of play. When Mazinho Couto fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Locomotiva grena's protests and gave Mazinho Couto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 47th match minute, Locomotiva grena was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mazinho Couto to maneuver through the defense.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jeferson Trigo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Osvaldo Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the Palmeiras defense, Jorginho Sarmento kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Váldson de Queirós. The Palmeiras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Váldson de Queirós should have stopped the shot. 60 minutes into the match, Jeferson Trigo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Murillo Loyola. Locomotiva grena's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jeferson Trigo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Murillo Loyola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Téo Trancoso in the 64th minute of the match. Jeferson Trigo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Murillo Loyola having to interfere. Murillo Loyola was out of position in the 69 minute of play, and Zé Valle capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Zé Valle really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. Palmeiras's Váldson de Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorginho Sarmento in the 79th minute of play. Téo Trancoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Murillo Loyola tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jeferson Trigo kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. If Jorginho Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jorginho Sarmento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 89 minutes, Vitório Freire managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Locomotiva grena's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vitório Freire was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 96 played minutes Locomotiva grena got a freekick which was hit by Vitório Freire. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
