In the 8thth minute of the game Fernand Waterloos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Roma's Alfons Edström was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 8 minutes, Verner Axelsson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Roma and the Haithabu FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Roma's Verner Axelsson got a free kick in the 8th minute. After 12 played minutes Haithabu FC got a freekick which was hit by Guust Sellekaers. After 14 played minutes Roma got a freekick which was hit by Edvard Rosendahl. After 17 played minutes Haithabu FC got a freekick which was hit by Bart De Scheper. Brian Laudrup hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 24 minutes into the match, Fernand Waterloos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Alfons Edström. Roma's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernand Waterloos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. 28 minutes into the match, Roma's goalkeeper Alfons Edström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernand Waterloos. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernand Waterloos in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfons Edström prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the last second Alfons Edström throw himself and got hold of the ball when Fernand Waterloos in the 34thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. 35 minutes into the game, Ivar Björklund was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Roma's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Haithabu FC the free kick. After 36 played minutes Roma got a freekick which was hit by Ivar Björklund. Oswald Haeselaers's late challenge caught a Roma's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Oswald Haeselaers helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Haithabu FC getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Oswald Haeselaers hit a great ball. Haithabu FC's Dimitri Asselberghs was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 39th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Fernand Waterloos received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Alfons Edström came out and tried to block the shot, but Fernand Waterloos slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 42nd minute. In the 46th minute Brian Laudrup shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfons Edström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

54 minutes into the match, Haithabu FC's Dimitri Asselberghs sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alfons Edström narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Haithabu FC's Roy Van der Voert proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 56th minute of the match, managed to save Haithabu FC from getting a goal against them. Alfons Edström showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brian Laudrup in the 62nd minute of the match. Roma's Alfons Edström played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernand Waterloos in the 64th minute of play. In the 66th minute Dimitri Asselberghs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfons Edström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Per-Erik Stolpe kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in Roma fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 69th minute. Penalty! A collision led to Haithabu FC getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Brian Laudrup hit a great ball. After having played for 77 minutes, Kennet Emander managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Roma's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kennet Emander was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Roma defense, Fernand Waterloos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alfons Edström. The Roma fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alfons Edström should have stopped the shot. Alfons Edström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dimitri Asselberghs, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fernand Waterloos in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alfons Edström saved Roma from getting behind. 95 minutes into the game, Haithabu FC's Brian Laudrup nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alfons Edström made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-0. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Haithabu FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Roma had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
