Gareth Shipton's late challenge caught a El Retorno de Palermo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lee Hislop in the 32nd minute of play forced El Retorno de Palermo's goalkeeper Modesto Olentzaro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lee Hislop might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Modesto Olentzaro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lee Hislop ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 40th minute, Lee Hislop ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Modesto Olentzaro was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 44th minute, Nunez Walme hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Natalio Nabar was the one to do the kick off. A long shot from Graeme Tinker in the 51st minute of play was well struck, but Modesto Olentzaro made a really good save at the right post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Geoff Vassell in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Modesto Olentzaro saved El Retorno de Palermo from getting behind. The supporters of Dakar Olympique booed when El Retorno de Palermo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Bernad didn't get a good kick on the ball. 94 minutes into the match, Dakar Olympique's Lee Hislop sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Modesto Olentzaro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The El Retorno de Palermo fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Dakar Olympique were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
