Mats Möllgren helped the player get up and apologised. 9 minutes into the game, one of Esporte Club Bahia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. A hard shot 14 in the game by Ubaldo Cambiasso from a close distance when the talented Jefferson Prado managed to make a qualified save. Esporte Club Bahia's players were relieved. Jefferson Prado made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bernardo Opilano in the 17th minute. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Jefferson Prado, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jefferson Prado stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ubaldo Cambiasso's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Gustavo Paes in the 27th minute of play forced BAIRES's goalkeeper Anibal Cambiasso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 30 played minutes BAIRES got a freekick which was hit by Lúcio Cambiasso. After some careless play in the BAIRES defense, Lauro Carneiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Anibal Cambiasso. The BAIRES fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Anibal Cambiasso should have stopped the shot. Anibal Cambiasso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Viggo Lidström in the 36th minute of play. Joaquin Cambiasso hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lauro Carneiro in the 44th minute of play forced BAIRES's goalkeeper Anibal Cambiasso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Anibal Cambiasso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Gustavo Paes, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Viggo Lidström made the kick off in the second half. Anibal Cambiasso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Viggo Lidström in the 51st minute of play. Mats Möllgren was shown his second yellow card after 55 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 55th minute, one of Esporte Club Bahia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Esporte Club Bahia. Joaquin Cambiasso walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. A collision led to BAIRES getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Joaquin Cambiasso hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Esporte Club Bahia's Luiz Gustavo Paes got a free kick in the 59th minute. Anibal Cambiasso made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Wieslaw Petka sent off a good shot on target. Jefferson Prado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bernardo Opilano in the 68th minute of the match. 69 minutes into the match, Genaro Cambiasso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jefferson Prado. Esporte Club Bahia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Genaro Cambiasso was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. 72 minutes into the match, Luiz Gustavo Paes dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Anibal Cambiasso, 2-2. Esporte Club Bahia made a substitution. Jean Sampaio replaced Clóvis Passos. Bernardo Opilano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jefferson Prado read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. In the 81st minute, Ubaldo Cambiasso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luiz Gustavo Paes got free with Anibal Cambiasso in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ubaldo Cambiasso scored 3-2 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jefferson Prado, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Esporte Club Bahia's Luís Eduardo Salles was substituted for Lauro Carneiro. Viggo Lidström recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 98 minutes in the game, Luiz Gustavo Paes fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Anibal Cambiasso having to interfere.
