Dorian Machado was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of Locomotiva grena booed when Eskişehirspor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bedirhan Mutlualp didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hílton Fernandez in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lenny Schaerlaekens saved Eskişehirspor from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Eskişehirspor's zone, Hílton Fernandez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Augusto Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lenny Schaerlaekens having to interfere. Hílton Fernandez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Lenny Schaerlaekens made a huge save. After the first half Eskişehirspor were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Hílton Fernandez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A sloppy throw-in by Luiz Guilherme Sena in the 54th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Eskişehirspor's Aydemir Tuğaltay.
