In the 41st minute Alberto-Federico Acosta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruperto Nayely saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Olof Melberg fell near the penalty area in the 45th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored República de la Boca's protests and gave Olof Melberg a yellow card for diving instead. In the 45th minute, Olof Melberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After some careless play in the República de la Boca defense, David Šácha kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gustavo Gabriel. The República de la Boca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gustavo Gabriel should have stopped the shot. Andreas Björkdahl made in the 88th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Pendex's Haroldo Vidal. Ruperto Nayely made an important save on a dangerous shot by Flavio Bonfigli in the 93rd minute. If David Šácha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the República de la Boca players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
