The Purcaresti CSS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cătălin Trică should have stopped the shot. 14 minutes into the game, Lanús's Roberto Puch nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cătălin Trică made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Roberto Puch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cătălin Trică read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. In the 23rd minute, Jake Hursey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nistor Anton could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Manuel Neuer made a huge save. Pavel Mazăre received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Manuel Neuer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cătălin Trică showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roberto Puch, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. The referee ignored Lanús's protests and gave Rabelani Thebile a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Purcaresti CSS booed when Lanús was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rabelani Thebile didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Purcaresti CSS players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Lanús were winning 0-3.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Iustin Radovan to strike the kick off in the second half. If Rabelani Thebile had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eloy Gaskon might have been able to make a better finish in the 60th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cătălin Trică. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
