Serginho Taffarel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 37 minutes into the match, S.E.R. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind MINEIROS's goalkeeper Serginho Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hugo Albuquerque got free with Eliézer Porto in the 47th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Joélson Paraibano made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Joélson Paraibano managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters rose to their feet, but Joélson Paraibano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The audience was convinced that Toninho Goiano's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eliézer Porto was relentless in the 69th minute of the game. Eliézer Porto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugo Albuquerque, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Eliézer Porto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toninho Goiano in the 72nd minute of play. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz charged in rather forcefully in the 73rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Caxias do Sul booed when MINEIROS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toninho Goiano didn't get a good kick on the ball. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing S.E.R. Caxias do Sul would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
