Caxias do Sul fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ricardinho de Senna couldn't finish the play. Esen Sanal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adam Pacholewski, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. After 46 played minutes Newcastle United got a freekick which was hit by Zé Paulo Zonta. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.
The wind increased when Lucio Siekkötter made the kick off in the second half. Mikolaj Jerzyk dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-1. Newcastle United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lucio Siekkötter was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-1. Mikolaj Jerzyk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lucio Siekkötter in the 82nd minute of the match. Mikolaj Jerzyk stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lucio Siekkötter's shot from short distance in the 85th minute.
