But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florencio Carlomagno couldn't finish the play. After 15 minutes, Nicanor Izel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dep Colonia Avellaneda and the Independiente players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 15th minute, Nicanor Izel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 19 played minutes Dep Colonia Avellaneda got a freekick which was hit by Leopoldo Rosa. Victoriano Bernaldo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Isidoro Beltran, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Mariano Silbestre sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 37 minutes into the match, Dep Colonia Avellaneda's goal looked a bit too open when Arsenio Rito came free, but Victoriano Bernaldo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leopoldo Rosa in the 39th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Isidoro Beltran stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Dep Colonia Avellaneda! The referee gave Independiente a penalty, 55 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Mateo Mendez, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Victoriano Bernaldo. 0-6. Victoriano Bernaldo made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Arsenio Rito sent off a good shot on target. Independiente's Pepe Santoro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leopoldo Rosa in the 60th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Darryl Buckner in the 61st minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pepe Santoro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Silbestre, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Victoriano Bernaldo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arsenio Rito in the 67th minute. Victoriano Bernaldo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isidoro Beltran in the 69th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Mariano Silbestre managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dep Colonia Avellaneda's supporters rose to their feet, but Mariano Silbestre was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pepe Santoro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Victoriano Bernaldo made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Isidoro Beltran sent off a good shot on target. Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Mariano Silbestre got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Dep Colonia Avellaneda's goalkeeper Victoriano Bernaldo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Isidoro Beltran was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Isidoro Beltran hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. In the 85th minute Leopoldo Rosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pepe Santoro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 88 minutes into the match, Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Leopoldo Rosa came free, but Pepe Santoro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 93 minutes into the match, Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Darryl Buckner came free, but Pepe Santoro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Mateo Mendez got a free kick in the 94th minute. The Dep Colonia Avellaneda supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Independiente's performance. The match ended with a win for Independiente.
