Alvaro Otsoa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 15 minutes, Leon Manilan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Rumi FC and the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 15th minute, Leon Manilan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Desiderio Florian was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 16th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Hermengildo Cordeara's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alvaro Otsoa was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Desiderio Florian in the 23rd minute. Rumi FC's Alvaro Otsoa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Conrado Lluciano in the 31st minute of play. Gonzalo Leocadio's late challenge caught a NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gonzalo Leocadio helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Rumi FC's Gonzalo Leocadio got a free kick in the 32nd minute. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Hermengildo Cordeara put it in 0-3 from a short distance just to the right of Alvaro Otsoa. 43 minutes into the game, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Robustiano Crispo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alvaro Otsoa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. A collision led to Rumi FC getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Leon Manilan hit a great ball. Hermengildo Cordeara blasted a shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvaro Otsoa having to make a save. The Rumi FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS were winning 0-4.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hermengildo Cordeara was the one to do the kick off. 57 minutes into the match, Rumi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Hermengildo Cordeara came free, but Alvaro Otsoa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 61 minutes, Alvaro Otsoa successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 62nd minute of the match NEWELL´S OLD BOYS got a corner. Rumi FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Desiderio Florian ran over to the corner to take the kick. Hermengildo Cordeara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alvaro Otsoa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hermengildo Cordeara's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. Hermengildo Cordeara had several of the Rumi FC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 75 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-5 score and a disappointed Alvaro Otsoa as he didn't even see the shot coming. Hermengildo Cordeara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Alvaro Otsoa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 85th minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Leo Lore ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Alvaro Otsoa. Alvaro Otsoa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-6. Alvaro Otsoa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hermengildo Cordeara in the 88th minute of play. When the final whistle sounded NEWELL´S OLD BOYS left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Rumi FC.
