The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When the match clock showed 7 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Márcio Cardoso sped through Estrela Solitária's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mário Quirino. An unexpectedly hard shot by Márcio Cardoso in the 13th minute of play forced Estrela Solitária's goalkeeper Mário Quirino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 18th play minutes Márcio Cardoso shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Mário Quirino and just under the crossbar into goal. Enio Travassos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Silvinho Amorim tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Teodoro Meirelles fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Estrela Solitária's protests and gave Teodoro Meirelles a yellow card for diving instead. After 30 played minutes Estrela Solitária got a freekick which was hit by Teodoro Meirelles. When Estrela Solitária's Enio Travassos in the 36th minute got a chance for a shot 36th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye ATHLETICO PRaiano's goalie prevented a goal. 39 minutes into the game, Belmiro Leal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Estrela Solitária's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave ATHLETICO PRaiano the free kick. A collision led to Estrela Solitária getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Belmiro Leal hit a great ball. When the match clock showed 46 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Enio Travassos sped through ATHLETICO PRaiano's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Silvinho Amorim. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Luís Fernando Proença made a kick off. Silvinho Amorim came out of the goal in the 52nd minute to try and stop a shot by Estrela Solitária's Fernandão Queirós. But to his dismay, Fernandão Queirós quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. After 54 played minutes ATHLETICO PRaiano got a freekick which was hit by Manoel Loureiro. Luís Fernando Proença fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvinho Amorim having to interfere. 64 minutes into the match, Estrela Solitária's goal looked a bit too open when Márcio Cardoso came free, but Mário Quirino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Silvinho Amorim made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Fernandão Queirós sent off a good shot on target. Silvinho Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Enio Travassos, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. If Manoel Loureiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Enio Travassos's late challenge caught a ATHLETICO PRaiano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Enio Travassos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 74th minute of the match Rômulo Miranda sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mário Quirino skillfully saved the ball. Mário Quirino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Márcio Cardoso in the 79th minute of the match. Luís Fernando Proença sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Silvinho Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Teodoro Meirelles in the 88th minute. After some careless play in the Estrela Solitária defense, Márcio Cardoso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mário Quirino. The Estrela Solitária fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mário Quirino should have stopped the shot. Luís Fernando Proença sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. ATHLETICO PRaiano were victorious despite being under pressure from Estrela Solitária for much of the match.
