In the 10th minute of the match ATHLETICO PRaiano got a corner. Fluminense DF's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jailson Cearense ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on ATHLETICO PRaiano's corner Jailson Cearense fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Walmyr Alagoano quite easily take care of the ball. The supporters of ATHLETICO PRaiano booed when Fluminense DF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Gustavo Trevisan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edvaldo Coelho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Manoel Loureiro quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Fausto Amaral, made in the 19th minute of the game. 20 minutes into the match, Edvaldo Coelho dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Walmyr Alagoano, 1-0. Fluminense DF's Walmyr Alagoano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Fluminense DF from getting a goal against them. Walmyr Alagoano came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by ATHLETICO PRaiano's Edvaldo Coelho. But to his dismay, Edvaldo Coelho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Edvaldo Coelho scored 3-0 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Walmyr Alagoano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Edvaldo Coelho kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 34thth minute. Though ot was a great shot Fluminense DF's keeper Walmyr Alagoano was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. Miguel Pereira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Augusto Neves, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Carlos Eduardo Lara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walmyr Alagoano having to interfere. In the 45th minute, Sílvio Pires hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Augusto Neves was the one to do the kick off. Edvaldo Coelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walmyr Alagoano having to interfere. Edvaldo Coelho might have been able to make a better finish in the 55th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Walmyr Alagoano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edvaldo Coelho ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 55th minute Edvaldo Coelho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Walmyr Alagoano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fluminense DF's Walmyr Alagoano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edvaldo Coelho in the 61st minute of play. In the 63rdth minute of the game Edvaldo Coelho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fluminense DF's Walmyr Alagoano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Fluminense DF booed when ATHLETICO PRaiano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Eduardo Lara didn't get a good kick on the ball. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Miguel Pereira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save ATHLETICO PRaiano from getting a goal against them. When Patrick Quintal fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ATHLETICO PRaiano's protests and gave Patrick Quintal a yellow card for diving instead. Miguel Pereira made an important save on a dangerous shot by Augusto Neves in the 80th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edvaldo Coelho in the 91st minute of play forced Fluminense DF's goalkeeper Walmyr Alagoano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 96th minute, Edvaldo Coelho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
