After 32 played minutes GRÊMIO got a freekick which was hit by Marcos Cearense. Sergio Goicoechea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ali Çağrı Çetiner's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. In the 44th minute of the match MALATYASPOR got a corner. GRÊMIO's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Üzeyir Zaid ran over to the corner to take the kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After having played for 96 minutes, Silvano Fraco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MALATYASPOR's supporters crossed their fingers, but Silvano Fraco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. MALATYASPOR walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
