Jerry Lodge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Radowit Ogrodowicz, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. 5 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Radowit Ogrodowicz came free, but Jerry Lodge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 5 minutes into the match, Radowit Ogrodowicz had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jerry Lodge. Valencia C.F.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Radowit Ogrodowicz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. 11 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Radowit Ogrodowicz came free, but Jerry Lodge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute, Tzvetoslav Serdev made a precise shot to the right of Jerry Lodge. Valencia C.F.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. 21 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Øyvind Skoglund came free, but Jerry Lodge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 25 minutes into the game, Joe Herring recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Thomas Sørensen. Joe Herring showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. Joe Herring's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 46thth minute, Thomas Sørensen skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joe Herring was the one to do the kick off. After some careless play in the FC Grivata defense, Lance Fairfax kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Thomas Sørensen. The FC Grivata fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Thomas Sørensen should have stopped the shot. Guillermo Farré hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Joe Herring might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Thomas Sørensen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Joe Herring ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 57th minute Joe Herring shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomas Sørensen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, FC Grivata's Brian Laudrup got a free kick in the 61st minute. Thomas Sørensen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joe Herring in the 62nd minute of play. 64 minutes had been played when some careless play by FC Grivata's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Joe Herring was slow to take the kick. During this time Valencia C.F.'s players had a chance to rest. Valencia C.F.'s Jerry Lodge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Radowit Ogrodowicz in the 66th minute of play. Radowit Ogrodowicz took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jerry Lodge. Jerry Lodge dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-3. Jerry Lodge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yngve Johnstad, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. FC Grivata's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Øyvind Skoglund in the 70th minute. Øyvind Skoglund made a great header on FC Grivata's corner, it was just that Valencia C.F.'s Jerry Lodge managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 71st minute, Kristian Brolin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Joe Herring in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thomas Sørensen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 75 minutes into the game, Valencia C.F.'s Joe Herring nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Thomas Sørensen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eero Grönholm got free with Jerry Lodge in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, FC Grivata's Brian Laudrup got a free kick in the 83rd minute. 84 minutes into the match, FC Grivata's goal looked a bit too open when Joe Herring came free, but Thomas Sørensen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Valencia C.F.'s attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Joe Herring in the 85th minute. A nice corner shot did that Oliver Bean got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Thomas Sørensen quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Thomas Sørensen came out of the goal in the 87th minute to try and stop a shot by Valencia C.F.'s Joe Herring. But to his dismay, Joe Herring quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joe Herring in the 90th minute of play forced FC Grivata's goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 94th minute Radowit Ogrodowicz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerry Lodge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Valencia C.F.'s fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
