The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Karl-Magnus Biörkquist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. United's Sabahattin Erten played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Richard Mendonça in the 14th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Inter Gala's Alfredão Brasil got a free kick in the 19th minute. In the 31st minute of the match, Modesto Peirano got a very nice opportunity to score, but Eduardo Baiano was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 33 minutes, Jorginho Valle mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Inter Gala and the United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sabahattin Erten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgar Souto in the 36th minute of play. If Rolando Bela had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With a little luck, Inter Gala's Eduardo Baiano got control of the ball when Ciriaco Alfonso tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in United's zone, Jaime Rodrigues stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sabahattin Erten came out of the goal and Jaime Rodrigues tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee felt a red card was in order, 44 minutes into the game, when Hong Hong put in a rough tackle. In the 48th minute Edgar Souto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sabahattin Erten saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Modesto Peirano made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hernan Emmanuel in the 57th minute of play forced Inter Gala's goalkeeper Eduardo Baiano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eduardo Baiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciriaco Alfonso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Inter Gala's Dênis Cavalcante was substituted for Karl-Magnus Biörkquist. A collision led to United getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Domingo Oinaz hit a great ball. Inter Gala made a substitution. Artur Saraiva replaced Alfredão Brasil. Sabahattin Erten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristóvão Ribeiro in the 72nd minute of the match. Modesto Peirano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Eduardo Baiano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. United made a substitution. Zlatan Gigant replaced Rolando Bela. Sabahattin Erten showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristóvão Ribeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. In the 82nd match minute, United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Desiderio Cerilo to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Heinz Stalder in the 86th minute of play forced United's goalkeeper Sabahattin Erten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eduardo Baiano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ciriaco Alfonso in the 87th minute of the match. Ciriaco Alfonso scored 2-2 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Eduardo Baiano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edgar Souto got free with Sabahattin Erten in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hernan Emmanuel took the ball and in the 93 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eduardo Baiano. Eduardo Baiano dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. Inter Gala's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because United had won, even though Inter Gala had held more of the ball.
