Skövde AIK's Calle Melberg managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jaromir Ziemniak in the 12 minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Chen Ao Fan got free with Adan Lartaun in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 19th minute Braulio Barrionuevo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karl-Erik Norström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goal looked a bit too open when Jacobo Lauro came free, but Karl-Erik Norström reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ismael Dolcet fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Karl-Erik Norström having to interfere. Karl-Erik Norström showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jacobo Lauro in the 37th minute of the match. Quilmes's 柳冰鹏 quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Kevin Keegan, made in the 44th minute of the game. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 96th match minute, Quilmes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by 柳冰鹏 to maneuver through the defense. If Kevin Keegan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Through an outstanding action, after 98 minutes, Karl-Erik Norström successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Quilmes were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
