In the 26th minute, Delfim Cordobé left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club El Progreso fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Club El Progreso's Rolando Berenguer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eustratios Lemonis in the 29th minute of play. In the 30th match minute, Club El Progreso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Can Dogo to maneuver through the defense. In the 33rd minute Thodoris Koutsoures shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Berenguer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rolando Berenguer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thodoris Koutsoures, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Club El Progreso were furious when Denis Rufo was red carded, 51 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In a very dangerous position, a player in Club El Progreso fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 51st minute. Penalty! Grigoris Ntinopoulos charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
