With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paulo Mattos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Boca Juniors fans' excitement grew in the 17th match minute when Boca Juniors's Reno Colillas looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Luís Fabiano Corrêa hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reno Colillas in the 20th minute of play forced Itajaí Football Club's goalkeeper Paulo Mattos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 21 played minutes Itajaí Football Club got a freekick which was hit by Conrado Miranda. Paulo Mattos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Reno Colillas in the 25th minute of the match. After 26 played minutes Reno Colillas could catch the ball where he stood relatively free a bit outside the goal and without hesitation he completed 3-1 into the left cross. Reno Colillas who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 46thth minute tested the skills of Paulo Mattos when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 3-4 lead.
The wind increased when Conrado Miranda made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reno Colillas in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paulo Mattos saved Itajaí Football Club from getting behind. With a little luck, Boca Juniors's Benigno Sabina got control of the ball when Conrado Miranda tried to sneak it across the goal line. 56 minutes into the match, Itajaí Football Club's goal looked a bit too open when Reno Colillas came free, but Paulo Mattos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match clock showed 59 minutes, the score became 4-4 when Reno Colillas sped through Itajaí Football Club's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Paulo Mattos. After 64 minutes, Hortêncio Fontes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Itajaí Football Club and the Boca Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. When the match was over Itajaí Football Club could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Boca Juniors throughout the match.
