Spectators: 7679 (Terracing: 5760, Seating: 1766, VIP seats: 153) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Arnaldo Gabino took the kick off in the first half of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Clemens in the 3rd minute of play forced LegionArgentina's goalkeeper Saul Osoitz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 5th match minute, LegionArgentina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcos Herrera to maneuver through the defense. 8 minutes into the match, LegionArgentina's goal looked a bit too open when Jakov Stähr came free, but Saul Osoitz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 9th minute, Nicolas Sayvion hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Sydney FC fans' excitement grew in the 19th match minute when Sydney FC's Jakov Stähr looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Richard Clemens hit a great ball. Axel Ballhaus made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Marcos Herrera sent off a good shot on target. Saul Osoitz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Per Schäfer in the 28th minute of play. In the 30th minute Arnaldo Gabino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Axel Ballhaus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sydney FC's Axel Ballhaus played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ermegildo Jaunti in the 32nd minute of play. In the 33rd minute Richard Clemens shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Saul Osoitz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Sydney FC's Axel Ballhaus got control of the ball when Arnaldo Gabino tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Arnaldo Gabino came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the LegionArgentina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arnaldo Gabino couldn't finish the play. Gaspar Berriotxoa hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Sydney FC made a substitution. Constantin Ehrgott replaced Tizian Borutta. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jakov Stähr stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Sydney FC defense, Arnaldo Gabino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Axel Ballhaus. The Sydney FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Axel Ballhaus should have stopped the shot. Richard Clemens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 59th minute Per Schäfer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Saul Osoitz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Saul Osoitz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Per Schäfer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Saul Osoitz made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Per Schäfer sent off a good shot on target. Saul Osoitz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Richard Clemens in the 71st minute of play. Sydney FC's Jakov Stähr got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jakov Stähr in the 81st minute of play forced LegionArgentina's goalkeeper Saul Osoitz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Froilan Arnas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Axel Ballhaus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcos Herrera, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Don Küttner kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. In the 96th minute Arnaldo Gabino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Axel Ballhaus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
