Spectators: 7549 (Terracing: 5663, Seating: 1736, VIP seats: 150) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Dave Goorts started the match with the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dráuzio Alvarenga in the 5th minute of play forced Club Brugge's goalkeeper Giles Valkeneers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 13 played minutes Mexilhão F. C. got a freekick which was hit by Vicente de Barros. Luís Paulo Velloso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dave Goorts, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. After some careless play in the Club Brugge defense, Conrado Macedo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Giles Valkeneers. The Club Brugge fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Giles Valkeneers should have stopped the shot. Thanks to some nice moves Arnout Labrouche could shoot a difficult shot in the 23rd minute, which Luís Paulo Velloso however easily saved by the left post. 34 minutes into the match, Club Brugge's goal looked a bit too open when Serafim Motta came free, but Giles Valkeneers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Dráuzio Alvarenga made the kick off in the second half. After 53 minutes, Arnout Labrouche mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Brugge and the Mexilhão F. C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Mexilhão F. C. booed when Club Brugge was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnout Labrouche didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 54 minutes, Róbson Passos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexilhão F. C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Róbson Passos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mexilhão F. C.'s Luís Paulo Velloso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dave Goorts in the 58th minute of play. Guilian Jannis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Mexilhão F. C.. Luís Paulo Velloso went to the wrong direction when Dave Goorts was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Luís Paulo Velloso came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by Club Brugge's Arnout Labrouche. But to his dismay, Arnout Labrouche quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. Giles Valkeneers stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Conrado Macedo's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. If Gugu Custódio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 80th minute Guilian Jannis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Paulo Velloso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luís Paulo Velloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnout Labrouche in the 81st minute of play. In the 86th minute Dave Goorts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Paulo Velloso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Christian Rouvroys fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Brugge's protests and gave Christian Rouvroys a yellow card for diving instead. If Arnout Labrouche had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Club Brugge's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
