After having played for 31 minutes, Oscar Lalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Universidad Nacional's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oscar Lalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Monitor Huáscar booed when Club Universidad Nacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oscar Lalla didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Sanson in the 42nd minute of play forced Monitor Huáscar's goalkeeper Johans Ortubia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Angelo Abastas hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fernando Abarca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cordero Casuso, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 61st match minute, Monitor Huáscar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Víctor-Ricardo Rivadeneyra-Salgado to maneuver through the defense. Johans Ortubia acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 64th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Gualterio Pio. A hard shot by Gualterio Pio from long distance, 67 minutes into the match, got Johans Ortubia's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 67th minute, Ivan Cebada hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Johans Ortubia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oscar Lalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ivan Cebada charged in rather forcefully in the 75th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ivan Cebada the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ivan Cebada hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. 80 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Sanson came free, but Johans Ortubia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Johans Ortubia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Epifanio Velasco in the 82nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Monitor Huáscar's zone, Diego Sanson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Johans Ortubia came out of the goal and Diego Sanson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Club Universidad Nacional's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
