The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Aníbal Arósio hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Valer Nuțu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Décio Messias went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Iordache Vuşcan in the 25th minute of play forced Sipo EC's goalkeeper Cacá Maciel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Luiz Guilherme de Almeida had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Renan Zanette's late challenge caught a Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Valer Nuțu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Petre Benga to make the kick off. Cacá Maciel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Petre Benga in the 89th minute. After 89 played minutes Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- got a freekick which was hit by Iordache Vuşcan. Valer Nuțu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Décio Messias in the 94th minute of play. Sipo EC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
