The audience was convinced that Mario Gleason's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ludvig Refsnes was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Kenneth Husum managed to get in a good position for a shot. AEK FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Kenneth Husum was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brent Daigle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ståle Skogli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Brent Daigle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brent Daigle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Snorre Nygaard, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. If Marcellin Stoddard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ludvig Refsnes came out of the goal in the 33rd minute to try and stop a shot by Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Mario Gleason. But to his dismay, Mario Gleason quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 36th match minute, AEK FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kenneth Husum to maneuver through the defense. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Kirby Siegel got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Snorre Nygaard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Brent Daigle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Marcellin Stoddard got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Kenneth Husum, 43 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Noah Onstad could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Brent Daigle made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Ståle Skogli managed to get in a good position for a shot. AEK FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ståle Skogli was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brent Daigle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 50th minute, Snorre Nygaard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 53rd minute, Noah Onstad ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Brent Daigle was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 56th minute, Snorre Nygaard left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The AEK FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. The crowd rose to their feet as Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Mario Gleason slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ludvig Refsnes. That made the score 2-2 after 61 minutes of play. Snorre Nygaard blasted a shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Brent Daigle having to make a save. Mario Gleason in the 80thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ludvig Refsnes, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When the match had gone on for 89 minutes, Snorre Nygaard put it in 5-2 from a short distance just to the right of Brent Daigle.
