The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Sundens BK getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Beven Carmichael hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubens Abreu in the 6th minute of play forced Sundens BK's goalkeeper Axel Mellberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sundens BK's Axel Mellberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubens Abreu in the 11th minute of play. The supporters of Itajaí Football Club booed when Sundens BK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfred Andersson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 16th minute Marcelinho de Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Axel Mellberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Sundens BK's goal looked a bit too open when Marcelinho de Salles came free, but Axel Mellberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Itajaí Football Club's Marcelinho de Salles got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sundens BK's defense didn't have a chance, in the 26th minute, when Rubens Abreu scored to the left of an out of position Axel Mellberg, making the score, 1-0. If Marcelinho de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Axel Mellberg came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Itajaí Football Club's Rubens Abreu. But to his dismay, Rubens Abreu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Axel Mellberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcelinho de Salles, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Axel Mellberg was a little too slow when Rubens Abreu got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 37th minute. The score was now 3-0. 40 minutes into the game, Per Eliasson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sundens BK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Itajaí Football Club the free kick. In the 40th match minute, Sundens BK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Per Eliasson to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eustaquio Pudes was the one to do the kick off. Marcelinho de Salles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Axel Mellberg having to interfere. 52 minutes into the match, Sundens BK's goal looked a bit too open when Rubens Abreu came free, but Axel Mellberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Sundens BK defense, Marcelinho de Salles kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Axel Mellberg. The Sundens BK fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Axel Mellberg should have stopped the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Börje Törnblom got free with Marcelo Galvão in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sundens BK's Axel Mellberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubens Abreu in the 59th minute of play. After 61 minutes of play, Itajaí Football Club's Marcelinho de Salles made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Axel Mellberg was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 69th minute of the match Birger Wall sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcelo Galvão skillfully saved the ball. Axel Mellberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonardo Varela in the 71st minute of the match. 77 minutes into the match, Leonardo Varela notched a goal, 8-0, to the right of Sundens BK's Axel Mellberg. Axel Mellberg was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Axel Mellberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubens Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. Marcelo Galvão made an important save on a dangerous shot by Börje Törnblom in the 83rd minute. Axel Mellberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leonardo Varela, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
