Spectators: 7537 (Terracing: 5654, Seating: 1733, VIP seats: 150) GRÊMIO's Silvério Pinheiro started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Zico Zellier had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sergio Goicoechea. GRÊMIO's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zico Zellier was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After 11 minutes, Zico Zellier made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 14th match minute, GRÊMIO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo De Leon to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in GRÊMIO's zone, Angel Alvarenga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sergio Goicoechea came out of the goal and Angel Alvarenga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 16th minute, Zico Zellier ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sergio Goicoechea was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save GuateFortín from getting a goal against them. Sergio Goicoechea came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by GuateFortín's Zico Zellier. But to his dismay, Zico Zellier quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Sergio Goicoechea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 37th minute of the match. Sven-Edvin Jansson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sergio Goicoechea read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. After 43 minutes, Aílton Ferraz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the GRÊMIO and the GuateFortín players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Sven-Edvin Jansson came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the GuateFortín fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sven-Edvin Jansson couldn't finish the play. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sven-Edvin Jansson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 55 minutes, Sven-Edvin Jansson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. GuateFortín's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sven-Edvin Jansson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sergio Goicoechea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Angel Alvarenga in the 59th minute of the match. GuateFortín's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Angel Alvarenga in the 60th minute. In the 64th minute Silvério Pinheiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvério Pinheiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 72nd minute of play forced GRÊMIO's goalkeeper Sergio Goicoechea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 75 minutes into the match, Zico Zellier notched a goal, 0-5, to the right of GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea. Sergio Goicoechea was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. GuateFortín's Máximo Perrone was substituted for Angel Alvarenga. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sergio Goicoechea saved GRÊMIO from getting behind. Sergio Goicoechea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 84th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 93rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sergio Goicoechea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 96 minutes GRÊMIO's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Claudio Cerritos who took care of the corner kick. GuateFortín's Claudio Cerritos was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Sergio Goicoechea in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. GuateFortín walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
