In the 19th minute, Timur Chichko made a precise shot to the right of Sergio Goicoechea. GRÊMIO's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. When Pedro Paulo Varela came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the GRÊMIO fans jumped to their feet. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Gennadiy Blatun blasted a shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sergio Goicoechea having to make a save. A collision led to GRÊMIO getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Tiago Xavier hit a great ball. Sergio Goicoechea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anatoliy Bogolyub in the 65th minute of play. Sergio Goicoechea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Timur Chichko's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. After having played for 86 minutes, Luiz Gustavo Mazza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. GRÊMIO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Gustavo Mazza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 91 played minutes Феникс Санкт-Петербург got a freekick which was hit by Timur Chichko. Sebastian Postelnicu tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Josue Ayala. An unnecessary self made goal, 1-3 in the 95th minute. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Феникс Санкт-Петербург walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
