Övertorneå RK's Niclas Jakobsson got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gyál United's goalkeeper Horaţiu Petran, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Niclas Jakobsson in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Horaţiu Petran prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gyál United's Horaţiu Petran played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Niclas Jakobsson in the 23rd minute of play. After 24 minutes of play, Övertorneå RK's Niclas Jakobsson made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Horaţiu Petran was left in no man's land by his defense there! Horaţiu Petran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Niclas Jakobsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. If Zoltán Varga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute, Claes Sjögren hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Niclas Jakobsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Niclas Jakobsson in the 35th minute of play forced Gyál United's goalkeeper Horaţiu Petran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Horaţiu Petran was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tage Falk to strike the kick off in the second half. Horaţiu Petran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Allan Pettersson in the 80th minute of play. The Gyál United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Horaţiu Petran should have stopped the shot.
