In the 3rd minute Alexander Klemensson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremy Nicholas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Oscar Nordmark came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the New England Minas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Oscar Nordmark couldn't finish the play. New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexander Klemensson in the 10th minute of play. Jörgen Frohm's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jannes Van Leempoel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgardo Silva in the 17th minute of play. Jeremy Nicholas stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vergil Rupov's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Jeremy Nicholas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rain De Hond in the 24th minute of the match. Jeremy Nicholas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Suat Kaya in the 25th minute of play. Jannes Van Leempoel was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Edgardo Silva showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 27 minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alperen Öksüz. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edgardo Silva got free with Jannes Van Leempoel in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Suat Kaya in the 37th minute of play forced New England Minas's goalkeeper Jeremy Nicholas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel got control of the ball when Edgardo Silva tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 40th minute Vergil Rupov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremy Nicholas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgardo Silva in the 45th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Edgardo Silva managed to get in a good position for a shot. New England Minas's supporters rose to their feet, but Edgardo Silva was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jannes Van Leempoel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vergil Rupov to make the kick off. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgardo Silva in the 53rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Genk's zone, Tony Pacheco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jannes Van Leempoel came out of the goal and Tony Pacheco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Jeremy Nicholas successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save New England Minas from getting a goal against them. After some careless play in the Genk defense, Tony Pacheco kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jannes Van Leempoel. The Genk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jannes Van Leempoel should have stopped the shot. New England Minas's Emmitt Benson was substituted for Alperen Öksüz. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Roman Major hit a great ball. Jannes Van Leempoel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tony Pacheco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rain De Hond in the 69th minute of play. Oscar Nordmark fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jannes Van Leempoel having to interfere. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tio Lio, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. The Genk fans' excitement grew in the 76th match minute when Genk's Vergil Rupov looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Jeremy Nicholas made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Suat Kaya sent off a good shot on target. In the 83rd minute Genk were awarded a corner. Alfons Rijniers went to the cornerflag to take it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Emmitt Benson during the 86th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Emmitt Benson hit a great ball. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tony Pacheco in the 91st minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tio Lio in the 93rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jannes Van Leempoel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Suat Kaya could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Jeremy Nicholas made a huge save. Genk's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
