The audience thought a goal was coming when Antônio Carlos Bueno got free with Nelsinho Leite in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, AF CERRADO's Toninho Moreira got a free kick in the 21st minute. In the 30th minute João Pirani shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arlindo Guedes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vascogoianiense FC's Nelsinho Leite played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Antônio Carlos Bueno in the 34th minute of play. In the 35thth minute of the game Murilo Lucas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vascogoianiense FC's Nelsinho Leite was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With an all-out effort, AF CERRADO's Nelsinho Leite threw himself towards the right post 39 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Marcos Paulista, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. AF CERRADO's Arlindo Guedes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aírton Sousa in the 40th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexandre Tepedino in the 48th minute of play forced AF CERRADO's goalkeeper Arlindo Guedes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Antônio Carlos Bueno stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vascogoianiense FC's Gilmar Monteiro was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 91st play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal.
