With an all-out effort, Santos FC's Jermaine Richmond threw himself towards the right post 3 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Lanny Gilmore, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Santos FC were awarded a corner in the 4th minute after Khachatryan's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Dominic Albright took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Khachatryan's goalie and right to Terence Nicholas. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Khachatryan's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Merlin Castro in the 7th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Khachatryan's Jermaine Richmond got control of the ball when Tyron Velasquez tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tyron Velasquezs short, quick shot in the 19thth minute got Jermaine Richmond to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 25 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Tigran Kirakosyan came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jermaine Richmond made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tyron Velasquez in the 26th minute. In the 28th minute of the match Santos FC got a corner. Khachatryan's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dominic Albright ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led to Santos FC's Tyron Velasquez getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tigran Kirakosyan in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aaron Smallwood prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Khachatryan's Merlin Castro in the 37th minute got a chance for a shot 37th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Santos FC's goalie prevented a goal. Lanny Gilmore received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Jermaine Richmond tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Aaron Smallwood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sung McKinley in the 41st minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Merlin Castro to make the kick off. Tyron Velasquez hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Santos FC's Terence Nicholas managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Petros Oganesyan in the 59 minute of the game. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tigran Kirakosyan, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Khachatryan made a substitution. Arin Mndoyants replaced Tigran Kirakosyan. Petros Oganesyan made in the 63rd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Merlin Castro. Merlin Castro received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Aaron Smallwood came out and tried to block the shot, but Merlin Castro slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 64th minute. Jermaine Richmond showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. In the 73rd minute, Antoine Schaefer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Antoine Schaefer got a throw-in 76 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Sung McKinley. Jermaine Richmond showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 79th minute of the match. In the 79th minute Lanny Gilmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jermaine Richmond saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 86th minute, Lanny Gilmore left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Santos FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 95th minute of play forced Khachatryan's goalkeeper Jermaine Richmond to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 97th minute Arin Mndoyants shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aaron Smallwood saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
