Matias Bilintx could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Oliver Kan made a huge save. In the 42nd minute, Sporting de Gijón's Diego Maradona dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. In the 47th minute Saturnino Curcio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliver Kan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juan Rodriguez in the 93rd minute of play. 96 minutes into the game, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Oliver Kan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
