Liga de Quito's Silvio Morelo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Normand Gutierrez in the 23rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zilar Barcena in the 27th minute of play forced Toronto United's goalkeeper Nathaniel Wooten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Zilar Barcena to strike the kick off in the second half. Jame Hooks's late challenge caught a Liga de Quito's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
