In the 5th match minute, Santos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rusty Little to maneuver through the defense. After 7 minutes, Alex Paes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the HELVETIA and the Santos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Santos FC booed when HELVETIA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Paes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Desmond Rowell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mazinho Fernandez having to interfere. Denílson Cunha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18th minute Tyron Sheffield shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mazinho Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 19 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Sílvio Luís Melo came free, but Ahmed Long reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th match minute, HELVETIA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Osvaldo Pereira to maneuver through the defense. In the 23rd match minute, HELVETIA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denílson Cunha to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victor Hess in the 27th minute of play forced HELVETIA's goalkeeper Mazinho Fernandez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mazinho Fernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Desmond Rowell's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. After some careless play in the HELVETIA defense, Victor Hess kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mazinho Fernandez. The HELVETIA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mazinho Fernandez should have stopped the shot. Victor Hess took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mazinho Fernandez. Mazinho Fernandez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Desmond Rowell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Mazinho Fernandez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 41 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Desmond Rowell sped through HELVETIA's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mazinho Fernandez. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Desmond Rowell in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mazinho Fernandez prevented the ball from getting in the gole.

The wind increased when Luís Fernando Vergílio made the kick off in the second half. Desmond Rowell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Mazinho Fernandez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mazinho Fernandez made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Victor Hess sent off a good shot on target. In the 65th minute Desmond Rowell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mazinho Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ahmed Long showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sílvio Luís Melo in the 69th minute of the match. Mazinho Fernandez made an important save on a dangerous shot by Victor Hess in the 70th minute. With his leg Mazinho Fernandez managed to avoid a goal in the 72ndth minute, when Santos FC's Victor Hess fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Mazinho Fernandez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Desmond Rowell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 76th minute Desmond Rowell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mazinho Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 78th minute Desmond Rowell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mazinho Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 78 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Santos FC! In the 80th minute there was a penalty for HELVETIA. Frederico Vale stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ahmed Long. 1-3. Mazinho Fernandez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Desmond Rowell, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. After a defensive mix-up in HELVETIA's zone, Tyron Sheffield stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mazinho Fernandez came out of the goal and Tyron Sheffield tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mazinho Fernandez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Forrest Hopkins, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Jimmy Coulter scored 1-4 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mazinho Fernandez, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind HELVETIA's goalkeeper Mazinho Fernandez, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Victor Hesss short, quick shot in the 98thth minute got Mazinho Fernandez to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Desmond Rowell had several of the HELVETIA's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 98 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-5 score and a disappointed Mazinho Fernandez as he didn't even see the shot coming. The HELVETIA fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Santos FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
